Unless Tolkien imprinted deeply on your psyche as a child (as he did me), I'm not sure you'd enjoy this, and even then, you'd have to be the sort of person who enjoys the appendices in Return of the King. But if you need a middle-earth fix, written in a staid narrative voice, then I'd recommend it. There is no objectivity to this opinion, as I first read this one at the age of 13.
